Dr. Donahue attended medical school in Miami, Florida and graduated in 1989. He completed his OB/GYN residency at Indiana University in 1993 and is Board Certified. Dr. Donahue completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Medical College of Georgia in 1995.
Dr. Donahue has been in private practice in Indianapolis since 1995. Dr. Donahue completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Embryology at the University of Leeds, UK in 2005. This is one of only five programs in the world that has formalized training in Embryology by leaders in our field. Dr. Donahue feels that he will give better quality care to our patients undergoing IVF by having this extra specialized training.
Dr. Donahue is certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD) by the American Board for Bio-Analysis in the disciplines of Embryology and Andrology. Only 4% of HCLDs are Medical Doctors, the rest being PhDs. Dr. Donahue’s Lab is certified by the College of American Pathology (CAP), and he is an inspector of other labs that CAP certifies. We feel that his background as an HCLD benefits our patients directly.
His medical practice, Family Beginnings, PC has helped thousands of patients in Central Indiana over the past 20 years. His practice name tells a lot about its caring professionals. Dr. Donahue is personally involved with all aspects of his patients care and is one of two physicians in this very busy practice. In late 2002, he moved his office to a larger North side location with an on-site IVF lab, egg retrieval room, and 4 recovery beds. This was done to offer more patients the opportunity to have IVF that might otherwise not try due to financial considerations. In 2008 we moved to our current location. We designed the building, which we own, from the ground up with the IVF lab construction of paramount importance.
Dr. Donahue is married. He and his wife of over 30 years, Renate, have a 28-year old son, Christian, a graduate of Purdue University. He was conceived with the help of fertility therapy in 1991, so Dr. Donahue knows firsthand what our patients experience. He enjoys race walking Marathons, sailing, and reading.
Dr. Leo M. Bonaventura has been building families since 1976. He graduated from Indiana University Medical School and completed his residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology and later a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the Indiana University Medical Center. In 1981, after serving a few years as faculty at Indiana University, Dr. Bonaventura entered into private practice. He was a founding partner of The Indianapolis Fertility Center, later to be known as Midwest Reproductive Medicine, and Bonaventura Reproductive Medicine. In the fall of 2015, Dr. Bonaventura joined Dr. Donahue at Family Beginnings, PC. We think they make a great team, providing exceptional care to their patients. Both have been selected as ‘Top Doctors’ by their peers in the Indianapolis Monthly for multiple years in a row.
Dr. Bonaventura is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a Charter member of The Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and The Society of Reproductive Surgeons. Dr. Bonaventura is also an active member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine as well as the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society and has published numerous articles on infertility and its treatments. He lectures throughout the country on Ovulation Induction and In Vitro Fertilization, and is regarded as an expert in this area.
Dr. Bonaventura and his wife Gia have raised six children of their own and are new and excited grandparents. Gia joined the practice as one of our fertility nurses.
