Recipient Uterine Evaluation - SISWe evaluate the recipient uterine cavity with a saline infusion sonogram (SIS), sometimes referred to as a sonohysterogram. This simple ultrasound exam in performed in the office and is very similar to an intrauterine insemination. It shows the uterine wall, cervical canal, and endometrial cavity. We may see uterine polyps, submucosal myomas, adhesions or septae that may affect implantation and will need to be corrected prior to embryo transfer. Also, the tract of the cervical canal can be mapped and this should aid in having an easier embryo transfer. Please see the photo below that shows a normal uterine cavity with the SIS.
